Inverleith Bungalow

gloss was commissioned by Somner Macdonald Architects to transform a bungalow on Kinnear Road in Edinburgh’s Inverleith.

Bungalows became a familiar part of Scotland’s suburbs in the 1930s, offering independent homes with space for a garden. This project reimagines that enduring house type, pairing its broad tiled roof and bay windows with pale brickwork, a sheltered timber entrance and contemporary detailing.

Inside, a kitchen by Kitchens by Nick McNally brings together bold orange cabinetry, warm timber and crisp stone surfaces.

The commission also brought a welcome reunion: gloss had previously built another home for the clients. Working with them again was an opportunity to build on an established relationship, reflecting the trust and continuity we value across our projects.
